Taking it to the Streets

The mild weather we have experienced recently has likely given everyone an early dose of spring fever. The seasonable temperatures might have you thinking about taking in a baseball game at Camden Yards or Nationals Park, planting some flowers, or even tackling those projects you have put off in hopes of warmer weather. While the sure signs of spring are here, your friends at Clean Air Partners are gearing up for a busy swing of events and festivities to increase awareness about air quality, and what you can do to protect yourself as well as to improve the air quality during the summer months.

One of the key tools that Clean Air Partners advocates for employers to consider are telework programs, which offers employees the benefit of working from home or satellite offices. Throughout the years, these programs have proven to be very successful, particularly when it comes to improving employee efficiency, morale, and productivity. In addition, teleworking also provides an environmental impact, with fewer cars – and their harmful emissions – on the road. Recently, Clean Air Partners promoted Telework Week, and now, we are proud to be part of a conference outlining key strategies for telework programs. The Advance Learning Institute will be hosting an Executive Training on Telework in Government. The conference will be held from June 11-14th.

Along with telework, another way we can all have a positive impact on air quality is by using alternative transportation from public transit to ride sharing. This year, Clean Air Partners will be a part of the BWI Commuter Fair on April 27th. BWI Airport has established itself an important piece of our transportation infrastructure and providing the needed resources for area commuters underscore their commitment to the environment. Our friends at The BWI Business Partnership always have a strong showing, and we look forward to the opportunity of joining in this established tradition.

Cyclists out there will be happy to note that Clean Air Partners will once again participate in Bike to Work Day festivities. Mark your calendars and tune up your ride because Bike to Work Day is May 18th. Celebrations will be held throughout the region so look for us at a pit stop along the way.

New this year, Clean Air Partners will be helping to kick off Earth Day celebrations at Ft. Meade on April 17th. The lively festivities will provide great information and fun for all within a unique setting.

As always we look forward to seeing you out there enjoying the great outdoors during days with good air quality. If you have other tips or suggestions about where you would like to see Clean Air Partners, please feel free to contact us. You can reach us at sstonge@cleanairpartners.net.
